Seminar: ”Basin & Petroleum Systems Modeling in Hydrocarbon Exploration”

6 maio 2016, 16:58 Maria João Correia Colunas Pereira

Next Wednesday, May 11th, at 16h00, the seminar ”Basin & Petroleum Systems Modeling in Hydrocarbon Exploration”, will be presented by Mr. João Casacão.

Venue: Room V1.25, Civil Engineering Building, IST - Alameda Campus.

João Casacão graduated in Geology, Post-Graduated in Petroleum Geoscience and holds a Master’s degree by the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon in Geology – Stratigraphy, Sedimentology and Paleontology. After graduation he worked 3 years as an engineering geologist in two Portuguese companies before obtaining a scholarship from the Centre of Geophysics of Évora, in 2013.

He was part of the University of Lisbon team for the AAPG Imperial Barrel Award competition, in 2014. In 2014-2015 he was part of the Executive Committee that reinstated the AAPG Student Chapter of the University of Lisbon, responsible for organizing some activities within the Petroleum Geology scope, and was one representative for the Europe Student Chapters on the AAPG Annual Conference & Exhibition.

Before joining Galp Energia in 2015, he did an internship at Partex Oil & Gas. The project was to re-evaluate the petroleum potential of the Porto Basin (offshore Portugal), in which the main tasks were related to seismic interpretation, stratigraphical and structural evolution, define petroleum systems and conduct thermal modeling scenarios to evaluate the regional maturity potential.

In Galp E&P he is currently working as a Petroleum Systems Analyst in the Geosolutions – Basin Modeling team, by helping to evaluate projects mostly at a regional-scale, as well as assisting in-house research projects within the Geosolutions team.

27 abril 2016, 14:34 Maria João Correia Colunas Pereira

Next Friday, April 29th, at 11h00, the seminar "Climate Change in Iberia during the past 10,000 years” , will be held, presented by Dr Sebastian Luening.

Venue: Room V1.08, Civil Engineering Building, IST - Alameda

Sebastian Lüning holds a diploma in Geology/Palaeontology from the University of Göttingen in Germany (1994) and a PhD from the University of Bremen (1997), having worked on the tectono-stratigraphy of NW Thailand and the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula. Subsequently, he studied the North African and Arabian petroleum source rocks as a postdoctoral researcher and petroleum geologist at Lasmo plc (London) in co-operation with the University of Wales (Aberystwyth) and Royal Holloway College University of London. Between 2000-2007 he worked in various North African and Arabian petroleum geology projects at the University of Bremen, the Oxford- and Manchester-based North Africa Research Group as well as with CASP at Cambridge. After research and consulting projects with Shell, Exxon, Woodside and Oxy, Sebastian Lüning joined RWE Dea in 2007 where he has worked as senior geologist in the Libya group, and from 2010 to 2012 was Head of Regional Projects of the Africa/Middle East New Ventures Department. Since mid 2012 he is Chief Geologist New Ventures at Galp Energia in Lisbon, Portugal, where he searches for new exploration projects to complement the company’s participations in the giant oil pre-salt fields in Brazil and the large ultra-deep water gas field complex in Mozambique.
